1 Peter 1

February 13, 2019 by Kay/Candy Filed Under: Uncategorized Leave a Comment

Today we discuss 1 Peter 1 prompted by N.T. Wright’s admonition to “remind ourselves frequently, seriously and thoroughly who we really are” – loved and cherished by the Lord who delights in us and abundantly provides grace and peace through living hope. Because “living hope” is based on our eternal hope that, unlike earthly hope, is certain – absolute.

But rather than cover it all here, feel free to take a listen to our fun, lively, hopefully encouraging, chat. Thanks to ALL who participated – such great food for thought.

Moving into Chapter three, Paul shares more about his ministry to the Gentiles while pointing to God’s power, provision and precision as it relates to fulfillment of His plan for us to be able to come to him with confidence and freedom. Here’s the link to our chat:

Ephesians 2:11-22

Such a terrific discussion this week about what we were without Christ (vv 11-12), what God has done through Christ (vv 13-18) and what God is doing in us through Christ (vv 19-22) all anchored in God’s mercy manifested in the grace and peace provided through Christ’s sacrifice so that we may live – free and abundantly. Romans Lesson 10 & 11, 8:18 – 9:29

March 20, 2018 by Kay/Candy Filed Under: Uncategorized Leave a Comment

We continued through Romans 8, the “climax of Paul’s letter according to NT Wright, a chapter peppered with life-giving Truth and identity statements like:

  • The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. (v. 15)
  • The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. (v. 16)
  • Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ… (v. 17)
  • If God is for us, who can be against us. (v. 31)
  •  He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? (v. 32)
  • …we are more than conquerors through him who loved us (v. 37)
  • … neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (v. 38-39)

to Chapter 9 where Paul directs us through difficult concepts to land firmly on God’s faithfulness. But rather than cover it all, here’s the link to our chat:

Romans Lesson 9 – 8:1-17

March 8, 2018 by Kay/Candy Filed Under: Romans Leave a Comment

Candy begins in John 1:1-18 to set the stage for Romans 8. We begin with and contemplate throughout Pauls statement of Truth purchased with a hevty price, motivated by love – “There is now no condemnation …” What the Law could not give us (freedom or life), God graciously did by sending His Son.

But rather than recap everything now, here’s our chat from Tuesday.

Romans Lesson 3 – 2:17 – 3:8

January 27, 2018 by Kay/Candy Filed Under: Romans Leave a Comment

What a treat to discuss this week’s lesson titled by NT Wright God’s Determined Faithfulness together. Sometimes this great letter from Paul to the Romans can be a challenge to digest since the arguments which he skillfully lays out can seem a bit heady and a challenge to understand. This week Paul dives into Old Testament Law, humanity’s bent toward performance, and our nature to control. But Paul introduces a radical concept – one that brought F R E E D O M and the intimacy of relationship with God over religion into his life – G R A C E. Paul explains circumcision of the heart a concept stemming from Old Testament times as it relates to grace.

And the Lord will circumcise your heart and the heart of your offspring, so that you will love the Lord your God with all your heart and will all your soul that you man live. Deut. 30:6

Which is where Paul has certainly found life. Oh how he hopes and longs for others to come and see for themselves life abundant in every circumstance. But rather than recap everything now, here’s our chat from Tuesday:

Romans Lesson 2 – 1:18-2:16

January 20, 2018 by Kay/Candy Filed Under: Romans Leave a Comment

This week Candy led us through the end of Romans 1 and beginning of chapter 2. We talked about God revealing himself in creation, about humanity’s rejection of God, about judgment (not only God’s Law, but also our own propensity toward judgment) and the underlying and overwhelming message of God’s provision to man through grace. What a privilege to be able to gather and honestly discuss Truth, grace, mercy, freedom, LOVE and so much more – together. Thank you for that.

Welcome

If you're looking for techno-savvy or a beautifully packaged spot - run for the hills. This probably isn't it. But - if you want a place to gather and openly/honestly discuss Scripture and its relevance to our lives today - pull up a chair (and feel free to invite a friend/neighbor.)

We’re a group of women studying God’s Word in Dallas, Texas. Our hope is to offer a place where we can encourage each other to engage in God's word to know HIM. So...
